HTTP Bandwidth Event Monitor Reference Guide
notitie
Overview
The HTTP Bandwidth Event Monitor measures network bandwidth by downloading a file from a website and timing the transfer. This monitor is designed to assess the download speeds of web servers, testing both internally and externally hosted websites. To ensure accurate measurements, it's recommended to use a file of at least 5 megabytes in size and preferably a compressed file, such as a zip file, to minimize distortions from automatic compression.
info
Use Cases
- Testing download speeds for a web server.
Monitoring Options
URL Configuration
- URLs: Enter URL paths to the file(s) for bandwidth testing, using placeholders for device names, such as
http://[devicename]/downloads/downloadtest.zip
. The[devicename]
will be replaced by actual device names from the Network Devices section during monitoring.
Alerts and Performance Measurement
- Alert with [Info/Warning/Error/Critical] if the device cannot be contacted: Get alerts if there is no connection to the network device.
- Alert if the minimum measured bandwidth is less than a specified value: Alerts if the bandwidth falls below set thresholds.
- Alert if the average bandwidth is less than a specified value: Alerts based on average bandwidth rates over multiple tests.
Connection Settings
- Connect Time Out: Set how long the monitor waits while trying to establish a connection.
- Receive Time Out: Specify how long to wait to receive the full web page content after connection is established.
- Number of times to download the URL: Define how many times the monitor should download the file to compute average bandwidth rates.
- Follow HTTP redirects: Ensures the monitor follows redirects and applies checks to the redirected page.
Authentication and Security
- This event monitor does not require authentication, simplifying setup and operation.
Protocols
- HTTP/HTTPS Monitors bandwidth using standard web protocols, ensuring compatibility across a wide range of web servers.
Data Points
- This event monitor generates the following data points:
