Azure VMs Status Event Monitor

Watches your Azure virtual machines and sends alerts about their states and statuses.

Overview

This event monitor watches your Microsoft Azure virtual machines for state changes, failed status checks, and more. It can also optionally generate a list of all VMs running on Azure.

Use Cases

  • Receiving notifications about every state change of your VMs
  • Getting alerts when new VMs are launched or deleted
  • Getting alerts when VMs fail a status check

Monitoring Options

This event monitor provides the following options:

Alert Conditions

  • Alert with [Info/Warning/Error/Critical] if Azure cannot be contacted. This option will send you an alert if the event monitor cannot contact Azure.

  • Alert with [Info/Warning/Error/Critical] if the state of any VM changes. Use this option to receive an alert if any of your VMs experience a state change.

  • Alert with [Info/Warning/Error/Critical] if any VM has a failed status check. This setting will send an alert if any VM has failed a status check since the last time the monitor ran.

  • Alert with [Info/Warning/Error/Critical] if a new VM is launched. If you launch a new virtual machine, this option will send you an alert of your choice.

  • Alert with [Info/Warning/Error/Critical] if a VM is deleted. This option will alert you with your choice of alert level if a VM is ever deleted.

  • Include a list of all virtual machines. Select this option to include a list of all virtual machines in the text the event monitor generates each time it runs.z

Authentication and Security

First, you'll need to create an app registration to add to your event monitor's authentication profile. Information on how to do this can be found in our "Creating an Azure Authentication Profile" article.

To properly authenticate with this event monitor, you must add the following permissions to your app registration:

Failed VM CountThe detected number of virtual machines in a failed state.
New VMsThe number of new VMs detected.
