Bandwidth
Utilizes Windows-specific protocols to monitor bandwidth used by servers and workstations.
notitie
Overview
This monitor takes two traffic samples from a remote machine to calculate the bandwidth used in the interval between these samples. It detects incoming, outgoing, and total bandwidth and offers alert options for exceeding specified thresholds.
info
Use Cases
- Comprehensive Monitoring: Tracks incoming, outgoing, and total bandwidth using a single tool.
- System Efficiency: Identifies systems that are consuming excessive bandwidth.
Monitoring Options
Connectivity Alerts
- Device Contact: Alert with [Info/Warning/Error/Critical] if the device cannot be contacted.
Bandwidth Threshold Alerts
Alert Type | Description |
---|---|
Incoming Bandwidth | Alert if incoming bandwidth on any interface exceeds a specified rate. |
Outgoing Bandwidth | Alert if outgoing bandwidth on any interface exceeds a specified rate. |
Total Bandwidth | Alert if total bandwidth on any interface exceeds a specified rate. |
Data Retrieval Method
- WMI: Option to retrieve bandwidth data using WMI.
- PDH: Default method to retrieve bandwidth data.
Interface Management
- Interfaces to Ignore: Specify interfaces to ignore during monitoring. Use commas to separate different values.
Authentication and Security
Ensure proper authentication:
- PDH: Required account must be a member of the Performance Monitor Users group or have admin rights.
- WMI: Account must have membership in both the Performance Monitor Users and the Distributed COM Users groups, or possess admin rights.
Protocols
Configure the event monitor to use one of the following protocols:
Explore more about each protocol by selecting the relevant option.
Data Points
Generates a variety of data points, including:
Data Point | Description |
---|---|
Incoming Bandwidth Rate | The incoming bandwidth for a network device. |
Outgoing Bandwidth Rate | The outgoing bandwidth for a network device. |
Total Bandwidth Rate | The combined total bandwidth for a network device. |
